I Tried Peptides for Chronic Illness. What Happened Surprised Me.
After years of trying everything to heal—this is what’s actually helping. The full protocol, the shifts I’m seeing, and what no one tells you about starting peptides.
There’s a very specific kind of exhaustion—the kind that lives in your cells, that settles in when you’ve tried everything and still feel like shit. It’s its own flavor of hell, honestly. And I wouldn’t wish it on my worst enemy. That’s been my life, on and off, for the last sixteen years… so you could say I know it well.
If you’ve been on your own healing journey for the long-haul (think chronic illness, mold, Lyme, mystery dis-eases galore), then you know the feeling. We’ve tried it ALL. Because what’s one more thing, when you’ve already devoted your life to healing and nothing seems to be working? I mean, some things work, but not longterm. There’s hope followed by a crash. Or a crash, followed by hope. Depending on the day.
Most of you know that I’ve spent years trying to find the thing that would finally shift my body out of survival mode and into true healing. I’ve healed a few times—enough to have two healthy and wonderful babies, enough to maintain my career and my brand and my life, enough to get married and move into our dream home, but there’s so much behind the surface that no one sees. And it’s a bone aching misery, a pain that lives so deep inside my cells it makes me want to scream. (That’s why I love ayahuasca and psychedelics… because it gives me a space to scream and scream and scream in a setting that doesn’t terrify the shit out of everyone.)
My #1 Theory on Healing:
Plus, I have a lot of theories on healing. The first thing I tell people when it comes to healing is that there is no final “destination,” and I think that pretending that there is a pie in the sky perfect version of health and wellbeing at the end of the tunnel is a detriment to the whole process. It’s a detriment to our happiness and wellbeing in the now. So I prefer to think of healing as a golden string of uphill moments and tiny wins that add up over time, and as long as you’re moving forward rather than backward—you’re going in the right direction.
Healing also comes in layers—there’s the physical, the emotional, the spiritual, and everything in between. That’s what my upcoming book is about, that I absolutely cannot wait to share with you in fall 2026. Some of the layers of my own recovery have looked like: nervous system regulation, mindset shifts, trauma work, functional medicine, plant medicine, spiritual awakening, Chinese medicine, Western medicine, and everything in between.
All of this said, something shifted recently that feels different. It is different. I feel it in my core. And that’s what we’re going to get into today.
In comes… PEPTIDES.
We’re not talking trendy, weight-loss, influencer culture peptides. & we’re not talking about Ozempic, although I do have thoughst. We’re talking real, regenerative healing at the cellular level… the kind I feel everyone on earth should know about.
How Peptides Came Into My Orbit:
You know when you hear about something for either the first time or the millionth time, but when you hear it, your ears perk up and your heart starts beating a little faster? That’s your intuition’s way of telling you, “Yes. Yes. This is a full body yes.” I’ve felt this many times on my healing journey, whether it’s been the name of a doctor or a treatment or a protocol or something that I just know has a lot of promise for me. Similarly, you can feel when something is a full body no. I’ve had a lot of full body no’s, too (for me: think bee venom therapy, vaccines of any kind, antibiotics for Lyme, the list goes on).
When peptides came up in conversation a few months ago, something lit up inside of me. Something big. I had heard about peptides many times—I’d even had friends call me for recommendations of doctors who specialize in peptides, and I’d sent them their way. For some reason, in the past, the topic just didn’t light up for me. Either I didn’t know enough about them or the timing wasn’t right, but back then, peptides didn’t spark any kind of reaction in me.
However, a few months back I was sitting in the office of Ken Guion, the founder of Ophora Water, in Carpinteria, CA. (He was on the podcast last week talking how to heal through water; highly recommend listening.) Jonathan and I had driven there to soak in their world-class healing tubs full of hyper-oxygenated, ozonated, nano-pure water. The cleanest water on earth, if you will. Their soaking tubs show a lot of promise for eczema, dis-ease of all kind, oxygenation of the body and beyond, but we can talk about that on another day.
Ken is a 75-year-old military veteran, and he easily looks 20 years younger than he is. Beyond that, he has youthful energy flowing through him to boot, which is obviously a sign of a very healthy person. Ken brought up peptides in our conversation that day, almost in a sense of disbelief that I wasn’t already taking them.
In his words, “Everyone over the age of 50 should be taking peptides—no matter who you are. And if you have autoimmune issues, you should 100% be taking peptides.”
I peppered him with a million questions. What really were they, anyway? Where could I get them? Which ones should I take? Which ones did he take? Were there any side effects or downtime? How hard were they to get, dose, and maintain? Were they really any better or different from everything else I’d already tried—from stem cells to ozone, from hyperbaric chamber to Chinese medicine herbs, from water fasts to parasite detoxes, etc. etc.?
He told us all about the ones he takes and told me that the best way to start experimenting with them was to talk to a peptide expert, because peptides themselves are very confusing. There are tons of them, the dosing is all over the place, and there are a lot of people experimenting with them right now on their own without exactly knowing what they’re doing. Which for a healthy person may be fine, but for someone with a health issue like myself, not so fine.
I let that conversation percolate for a while (as I always do; I’m a 4/6 Reflector so that is just the way I have to do things… I have to think about something new for a long time before making any impulsive decisions), but peptides stuck in my mind. I felt like I started hearing about them everywhere. They were coming up in every conversation. My brother-in-law ran up to me at an event one night around this time and said, “I just started taking peptides, what do you know about them?! Have you tried them?!”
Signs everywhere?!!?!?
Signs on signs on signs, if you will
So of course, I had to try them for myself. I wanted to research the best way to do them, the best doctor to go through, and what was already working / not working for people with my similar conditions and health concerns (beyond Lyme & mold, think chronic inflammation, unexplained weight gain post-pregnancy, extreme chronic fatigue, and more).
& that I did. ;) And that’s what you will find in today’s post!
For what I’m taking, how I got on them, how they’re making me feel, benefits I am feeling so far, tips & tricks I have, and beyond, read on! I’ve got you! And of course, as always, ask any questions below in the comments & I will answer every single one!!
