The $80k Mindset Shift: Holy Shit, Substack Is Becoming My Full-Time Thing!

it wasn’t long ago that i wrote the $60k mindset shift, which i think became one of my most popular substack posts to date. which of course meant the world to me! the post was about my shift from treating substack like a hobby, into treating it as a job.
and TODAY, to my great surprise and glee, we’re hopping into the $80k mindset shift! meaning… over the last several months of treating substack like a job instead of a hobby, i’ve grown my annual recurring revenue on this platform to $80k yearly. 😱
as a writer in my bones, i am SHOOKETH BY THIS. I DID NOT THINK THIS WAS POSSIBLE in the current internet landscape!!! i am overjoyed because when i say substack has truly given me my life back… IT HAS.
but before we dive all the way in, i want to get a few things out of the way:
one, i’m never going to become a substack platform where all i write about is how to grow your substack. no shade to people who do that, but it’s not my cup of tea. i am here for the deep dives, the cultural think pieces, the wellness investigation moments, the blogosphere of yesteryear!
BUT i do recognize that this is an incredible opportunity to create income out of doing what i love most, and i genuinely want everyone reading (if they so wish) to be able to do the same… so yeah, i’ma spill and not gatekeep
i cringe a bit at myself every time i post screenshots of my substack revenue—it’s not something i do on any other platform lol but i think because this platform is purely based on writing, and the value has come from doing what i love most and pouring my all into it and trying really hard to scale something i’ve been obsessed with since i was 5 years old… it makes me want to shout it from the rooftops!!
so i say this to make sure you know i am not bragging (maybe if it was 8 MILLION i’d have bragging rights hahaha) but just really wanting to be an open book and show you what’s possible!
my husband literally told me to stop writing these “mindset shift” growth posts, because he has seen me as among the “first” to many platforms, and then eventually get all but washed out by people who join the platform and drown out the original voices… and i really do get his take. i do. he’s not trying to gatekeep, he’s trying to preserve the excitement and joy that i currently have for being an early adopter here. BUT i feel i came to this earth to be a human guinea pig and turn my soul inside out & share with you guys through writing, so i’m still gonna do it lol. AND my philosophy is and will always be—the more the merrier. there is more than enough success to go around.
